"...knowingly blended to start the flow..."

(Yeah, but out of which orifice?)

do you think people 37 years ago found this appealing looking??

From the '20s to about 1960 you could have a 'chicken dinner' for dessert!

For your consideration:

Beans. PEANUT BUTTERED beans.

I just found this 1864 Presidential campaign ad in a book about life on the home front during the Civil War and *had* to share it. Needless to say, McClellan lost the election (and there was much rejoicing!)

From 1940:  a jello mold.

A plum pudding jello mold.

Plum pudding. Jello mold. Somehow these two things do not go together.

Oddly, though, this one might actually be edible.

Note as well the sidebar, with its suggestion of celery stuffed with a mixture of chili sauce and peanut butter.

This one might appeal to some (I guess,) but I think it looks pretty gross.

One of my favorite soft drinks, and having Ann-Marget as a singing and dancing pitch-person ain't too shabby either!

No idea what era this is from, but I think we can make a pretty good guess.

(This is so vile, I had to upload it to Photobucket because Live Journal refused to upload it.)

What was it with lime Jell-O?

Woman's Day, 1955.  Lime Jell-O with grated onion, cauliflower, and pimentos.  Top with mayonnaise or French dressing "if desired".

Lime Jell-O. Onions. Cauliflower. Pimentos. ONE OF THESE THINGS IS NOT LIKE THE OTHERS.

I'm not even sure what the crap this is supposed to be.

From the name, and the use of soy sauce and rice I surmise that it's meant to be taken as some suburban white-bread version of "Chinese".

Chop chop. Velly tasty.

I don't think photographing it in color would have helped.

From 1954. Delicious Lime Jell-o, onions, cottage cheese, mayonnaise, and seafood salad.

There is something unappetizing about the very word "mackerel".

That this dish was so repellent they had to print the photograph TWO INCHES BIG did not help.

Mmm, mackerel.
