Actually brewers' yeast does contain a lot of vitamins, mainly B-group. At the time of this ad B vitamins were not available commercially and brewers' yeast was prescribed for a variety of complaints.
I actually eat nutritional yeast. But baker's yeast would probably cause a yeast infection in susceptible patients. Maybe I made the ad too small to make that clear.
Bakers' yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) is the same fungus species as brewers' yeast. What is commonly called 'yeast infection' is caused by the Candida fungus. Saccharomyces cerevesiae infection has been described in patients with severe immune deficiency but is very rare. Such patients should avoid both bakers' and brewers' yeast (uncooked), because medically they are the same thing.
It is, but it has nothing to do with the yeast we eat. The bakers' or brewers' yeast is Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and the 'yeast infection' after taking oral antibiotics is Candida albicans - an entirely different bug that lives on our skin.
