Am I the only one who thinks it's weird that the caption says "Brown is beautiful" but they used a Caucasian model?

That was my first thought, yeah...

Although I guess they though it would be harder to notice the "tan"

No, because it's a tanning product. But it's ludicrously ironic for sure. It's like white people can join the ethnic revolution too! Very dumb.

Yanno, when I used to try (or allow myself), I would get a lovely nut-brown tan. I must have Mediterranean skin because I'm also super-pale in the winter.

What I love about ads like this is that it really shows us how much mores have changed.

Yes

I am a total sun worshiper myself, but I'll admit that I think she's gone a wee bit too far.

I was wondering how she gets that shade. I've got some wicked awesome bikini tan lines, but if you look at me with them covered, I don't even look tan. I'm THAT pale naturally.

Me too. But my dad, who is Irish, used to tan just about that dark. On his back anyway.

My husband is Irish and can achieve that dark of a shade too. I wish I could even get half that.

It's weird, I have aunts and uncles who blister in the sun. Clearly Dad got any lurking Spanish genetics. Me, I just weather.

They need to make a self-tanner that comes out looking real and that dark for us pasty people, instead of oompa loompa orange.

Don't forget premature aging. Some of my friends who tanned in the 70s now look like a side of leather. I'm glad I stayed pasty.

All I can think of are when older women lean over and you can see their sun-damaged, wrinkly cleavage.. ugh

Or golfers, with their arms creased in diagonal lines—actually, I'm well on my way to that one.

I wish celebs would get over their weirdo attraction to always being tan and avoid the sun like any normal, not-wanting-skin-cancer-and-leather-hide human.

Blech, sun.

I remember in Doonesbury, Garry Trudeau lampooned the idea of celebrity tanning with competitions like the "George Hamilton Cocoa Butter Open." (http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,961211,00.html)
