I went to look in case it was Dick Sargent the actor who did this, but it wasn't.... found a bio of the artist: http://www.curtispublishing.com/bios/Sargent.shtml
Rice Krinkles was Post's sugar-coated equivalent of Rice Krispies, made by Kellogg. I believe the cereal was discontinued sometime in the 1960s.
If you listen to some "Gunsmoke" radio episodes from about 1953 or so, you'll hear commercials for both Rice Krinkles and Post Toasties (another now-defunct brand, although Post just brought it back for a nostalgic "limited edition"). Weird hearing such a mature, literate western (which "Gunsmoke" was) interrupted by spots for a kids' cereal (I believe Rice Krinkles' slogan was "more fun than a circus").

Date: 2010-07-21 11:29 pm (UTC)Krinkles kind of sounds like a disease. Not sure I'd include it in a name for cereal.
