i hate that husband and kids...i really do....dad's sitting there all smug with his pipe and the kids are hanging around dad and they're probably saying "haha mommy has to stay in the kitchen" and dad's like "that's women work and little suzi someday you too will be tied to the kitchen like your mother" and then billy and the dad make eye contact and look superior....

that too....they probably fetched his pipe and slippers too and propped a pillow behind his back because he works SO HARD in the office all day flirting with his secretary, drinking martinis and slapping his co-workers on the back when they make a particularly good sexist joke that makes them all guffaw....

Yeah, but not in a "let's boycott Hotpoint!" kind of way. I think most people recognize it's a product of its times.

Of course, I'm mildly pissed just because I did all the dishes in the house yesterday and today there's a full sink again, but that's just me.

I think even in the 50s they had something called "chores," and kids did them too. At least in all the old Henry Huggins books and stuff, kids had to do dishes and yardwork.

yup - this is pretty much how it was when we were kids.....then father got the bright idea of us doing the dishes after dinner.....LOL
