i hate that husband and kids...i really do....dad's sitting there all smug with his pipe and the kids are hanging around dad and they're probably saying "haha mommy has to stay in the kitchen" and dad's like "that's women work and little suzi someday you too will be tied to the kitchen like your mother" and then billy and the dad make eye contact and look superior....

Good heavens, what did they have for dinner? That is a lot of dishes.

Is that a d/w and sink combo?

And there is apparently only one chair in the living room. The man gets to sit while everyone else stands around him.

I love how everyone gets so pissed off at these old ads. :)

Yeah, but not in a "let's boycott Hotpoint!" kind of way. I think most people recognize it's a product of its times.

Of course, I'm mildly pissed just because I did all the dishes in the house yesterday and today there's a full sink again, but that's just me.

I had a hotpoint window air conditioner that i bought for $40 off of craigslist a few years ago. It worked, sort of.

Me, too; that's why I try to transcribe the ads I post, in case people can't zoom in easily.

Although there's little I can add to the OP's description. Oh wait, yes there is: quite clever of The Family to stack up the plates into a wall, so if Mom wants see anything at all, get to scrubbin'!

Was it really unthinkable at the time to ask the kids to help? I wouldn't dare suggest it of His Royal Assness.

I think even in the 50s they had something called "chores," and kids did them too. At least in all the old Henry Huggins books and stuff, kids had to do dishes and yardwork.
