Life magazine, 1941 -- you know, I think that even back then this must have struck people as parodic at best.

Meatloafburgers dressed as lamb chops

It's the little paper frills that do it, I think.

Actually, for meatloaf patties that have been shaped into a pork-chop shape, they sounds damn good. Nothing parodic here, IMO.

But it is definitely a recipe for people like me. :)

You know I'm pondering throwing a potluck party with the theme of bad 1950s' recipes. Extra points if it involves gelatin.

I'm going to guess that Arthur Murray's parties weren't all that popular.

"Your guests will go away well-fed and envious of your prowess" More like "Your guests will mutter about how cheap you are for trying to pass off meatloaf as lamb chops."

But the music and dancing must have been great.

He probably charged them if they danced, claiming they were lessons.

I want to make these just so I can use chop ruffles. Of course, first I have to find a place that *sells* chop ruffles, but these *are* the internets. If I can't find it here...I can make it out of construction paper. :)
