Light to medium brown, basically. 'Brunette' is used to mean dark brown or black.

I have always had a soft spot for "selling cosmetic colors according to hair colour." Seems like it was just 1930's through '50s. I think "Brownette" was in the light brown to dishwater blonde range.

Did it really snap apart? I've seen much earlier ads showing a bar that looked just like this one, being sawed apart with thread.
