Note that they're promising to make it a "desirable food for the American people". At the time this was written, spaghetti was only beginning to be regarded as anything but a "foreign" food: in fact anything with actual seasonings in it was at this time seen as unhealthy, vaguely dangerous, and "stimulating".

Fully two decades after this ad was published, LIFE magazine printed a profile of Joe DiMaggio in which they assured readers that he never "reeked of garlic" or slicked his hair down with olive oil. The implication was that it was safe for LIFE's readers to allow their blue-eyed WASP offspring to admire him, even if he did have an Eyetalian name.
