Let me try this again and get his name right this time: You should read about Edward Boyd (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/30/magazine/30wwln-consumed-t.html?_r=1&ref=magazine&oref=slogin)!
A woman friend of mine who is dark skinned (imagine a black plum... gorgeous glowing black gold skin) used to talk about all the pretty high-yellow girls with the even complexions and good hair that got all the cute boys. It's the first thing that I thought of when I saw this ad. I'm happy they used a darker complexioned boy as well.
It's a very pretty ad. and yes, I totally crave a 7-up float RIGHT NOW!
What gets me is that the skin color here looks more lifelike than white skin often did in pictures from the same era. I'd always sort of pictured pre-1965 people being sort of salmon colored.
Is it just me or is there a SUPER huge "If you know what I mean" subtext going on here? It's probably just me. That damn milkshake song makes any ice-cream themed drink made by a woman sound dirty to me now.
Damn right.
