Well...not in the 50s, certainly.

Couldn't Herr Karsh have chosen a better-populated time...?

The Ugly American (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ugly_American) - which deserves its fame - includes the character of a Catholic priest who had an epiphany one day, sitting in his comfortable air-conditioned church: Communism was literally the work of the Devil. Torture, slavery, murder, above all the lies that the whole system was based upon, that sucked in fresh victims every year, every day - he recognized what he was seeing. That the Church authorities didn't agree with him was not his problem. He had a job to do. It's what he put on the cloth to do.

So he went native - went into the jungles, adapted his body to eat native foods (which was a big deal; few Westerners could thus free themselves from traceable supplies), learned the native language (again, a rarity) - and proceeded to become a serious problem for the Party, who had heretofore proceeded without effective resistance.

Because materialistic people are always won over by the idea of living in tiny apartments and earning a pittance in the name of Communism.

The tinyest apartments I've ever seen were located in the midtown Manhattan :)

"materialistic atheism"

I guess god-fearing Canadian Christians don't drive their big-ass SUVs to the mega-church where the sermon is delivered by a man who owns a $20,000,000 house like their American brethren do.

I like how it says "six out of every twenty" because that sounds like more than "three out of every ten".

I came here to say that! That's what bothers me the most about this ad (and I'm an atheist).

I thought that said Communion at first.
