We had a Scout that looked almost exactly like this (it was a slightly uglier green, though.) The windshield wipers each had their own motor housing, and you could operate them manually if you needed to. I'm still not sure why the windshield folded down, either. The back seat had a bench running lengthwise, one over each tire well. If you hit a bump, you'd better hope you had the roof on or else you were flying out -- seatbelts were for commies.
The one time Dad let us ride in it with the top off was when he took us to see Wolfman Jack at a promotional appearance in the '80s. Fortunately we did not hit any bumps and I am here to relate this story.
