Back in the day, shoes were an investment that wore out, so the better care that you took of them, the longer that they lasted.

My favorite is about someone not knowing "Shit from Shinola" and not getting that visual reference until they used in Steve Martin's The Jerk since the brand isn't as prominant as it used to be.
