i don't know if you've stumbled upon the astonishing resource of http://www.archive.org, but they have some real classics of 50s clunkiness / exploitation / staunchness. permit me to introduce you to:

Woohooo! Thanks for sharing-I might be going for my Master's in History (law school having been..uh..well.) and my emphasis will be on Mid-Century American social history. Those links are more than just interesting to me. :)
THAT was funny to me for some reason-although I wasn't sipping coffee at the time. grrrrrrr. The "silver polish" one is a little scary-I mean, those people had so little clue of the dangers I'm sure someone was working on such a polish. Seriously.
I meant to say I WISH I wasn't sipping coffee at the time. *shrug* I'd spill it somewhere anyway. It's really hard to tell what the black things are-I think they're lonely nuclei that can't find even a single electron. *sniff* Poor nuclei. :*(
Ohmigod, that's so weird! Those "less than fresh" ads just horrify/fascinate me; especially the ones from the 30s aimed at the working/farming class. I.E. "if you smell bad your husband WILL hate you and likely leave you." They're just brutal and you don't find them in magazines like Good Housekeeping or Ladies Home Journal in my experience-well, not nearly as tactless anyway.
