Absolutely I'm sure about that date. :-) I scanned it in from the magazine myself this afternoon. It's my own copy (which I think may have belonged to my grandmother first) and there are some other ads from that issue I was thinking of posting here as well.
I just did a quick Google search on when the bobbed hairstyle came into vogue and found various articles about how how Irene Castle started the fashion trend. Here is one source: it all began in 1915 (http://www.hairarchives.com/private/1920s.htm) so it makes sense that an ad appearing in 1916 would feature short hair. :-)
