My sister had something similar back in the late 60's early 70's, though I think they were called moon shoes or something. Surprisingly, I don't recall either of us ever having any ankle injuries.

They weren't exactly 'thrilling' though. The novelty of bouncy walking wore off pretty quickly.

My dad had a pair of these when he was a kid; we dug them up in the barn visiting grandparents when we were. They were fun.
