My immediate thought was "Because if your house is styled like that, you don't deserve a bathroom"... Maybe I'm a little judgemental... I actually like everything but the terrible curtains, but the curtains are all I can see.
I just spent too much time examining that photo in order to make sense of where evrything is. Like the tup - where's the showerhead? I think I see it in the mirror, but it doesn't look like it's where it should be. And which way is that sink facing? And is it just me, or does it look like there's a missing wall or something near where the camera is?
However, I love the windows above the mirror and vanity area. And i'd love the entire thing more except for the linoleum floor. It's just too bright for me. Tone down the floor, get rid of those hideous curtains and YAY.
(this said, my bathroom has a Lilo & Stitch theme, on account of some prints I got waaay back when I pre-ordered the DVD when it first came out. the colors are those very same lime, turquoise, and brown, with a bit of orange, like when I want to fancy the place up)
The shower-tub seems to be disturbingly close to the vanity/dresser/desk thingy. It also appears to be around 3 foot square. Just enough room to stand. And the sink seems to be facing towards the toilet.
Before I realize it was an ad for linoleum, I thought that was carpeting. Bathrooms with carpeting should not exist. ;)
takes a moment to admire akari in the pretty icon and also get sad that the aria books ordered last week were supposed to be here yesterday but haven't shown up yet...maybe today?
When I was a kid, we lived maybe four blocks from a golf club place thing. The important thing about it is that it was built in the sixties and was totally fugly and had a pool. Before it got bought by the city and renovated to be a public pool and community center, the only place to use the bathroom was in the clubhouse - for whatever reason, the pool building had outdoor showerheads to rinse of chlorine or dirt, but not bathrooms. So everyone traipsed indoors to that bathroom. Which, for some bizarre reason, was carpeted (not the whole place, but by the sinks and sitting areas).
Let me tell you, it was so gross and bizarre and weird. It wasn't an all-purpose carpeting, either, but a semi-shag thing, and it had got matted in places and I don't even know how it passed health inspections. (Though I guess it DID get cleaned regularly, or something? And they tore it up when the city bought the place and put tile in.)
So, point of the story: traumatic experiences with carpeted bathrooms over here! They definitely shouldn't exist. Ever.
I think the tub just appears small because the shower curtain is hiding about a third of it. I'm guessing that the showerhead is hidden by the curtain, too. Of course, that'd mean risking a lot of water spraying onto the vanity or at least running down the wall onto it because of the weird tub placement.
I thought that was carpeting in there at first.
The whole thing looks like an example of how not to design a bathroom.
I agree and I think it doesn't exist.......anymore. In my lifetime I have lived in three houses that had bathroom carpet (and two with kitchen carpet)and I am here to tell you it is a bad idea all the way around. It never dries out completely so it always smells moldy. Food (and other) odors remain trapped forever so that is why they invented Carpet Fresh. If anything disgusting falls on it, it's really hard to clean up and there is always a stain to remind you of it.......for all eternity.
I think what happened is that when wall-to-wall carpet became avaible, people got excited and then got carried away thinking of all the things they could do with it. As Ian Malcolm said in Jurassic Park "just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD do it."
Because I don't want my bathroom to look like the rest of my house. Nor do I want my house to look like the bathroom. I don't want the bathroom to look all cozy and home-like. I want my bathroom with tile and porcelain - sanitary!
