but...but...why? that doesn't make any sense. And i'm not really sure "our toasty cereal is so fattening it saves you from impending doom by bomb" is a very good market strategy either.

Li'l Abner was a fantastic comic strip written by Al Capp from the 30s through to the 70s; I think this ad is trying more to tie in with the popularity of Li'l Abner than it is trying to make sense. Though if you've ever read the comic strip, aside from the product placement, it does fit with the internal logic of Li'l Abner's world.
