There are videos of washing machines like this on YouTube, and they seem to still be going strong. I can't remember how I found the links, but there are appliance enthusiasts out there.
We had one of these when I was a teenager! The mechanism is so simple that it never failed and my mom couldn't part with it when we bought her a modern one. She kept it until quite recently. When she first got it she was so delighted that she didn't have to scrub all the laundry on the scrubbing board anymore! It was Space Age appliance to her.
