For those wondering what you would get if you did order the 7 foot long polaris nuclear sub.

The owner of this photo says...
"I remember this as being a pretty cool toy. It had a little mirror periscope and you could fire the torpedoes and missiles. They shot out using a rubber band sling shot built in. Being immobile it was a bit difficult to aim, but if the dog or my brother happened to pass by the front of the sub... POW! Got em."

1. Is your icon from The Royal Tenenbaums? It's one of my favorite movies.

2. I recently saw what I think is some sort of CSI TV show about a guy who, with his friend, bought some kind of toy like this, sailed it into a pond, and one of the kids lost his little life. The other kid grew up and never forgave the guy who sold it to him. FOr revenge, he rigged up an exploding cigar that blew the face off an innocent man. It was a ridiculous story, but it's cool to see the submarine from the show! Did it have a million warning stickers on it saying "This is not really a submarine, so, you know, don't put it in the water"? Or were we smarter then?

Possibly not as big as it looked in the illustration...but I want one nonetheless. :)

This reminds me of a story (http://drabblingdaily.blogspot.com/2008/05/droubble-buyers-remorse.html) I wrote recently...

That's a great follow-up post. Outside of the real (1 inch) vampire bat and Sea Monkeys, I don't think I've seen the actual item from those little comic book ads. I always wondered about the 6'Frankenstein's monster.

To top it off, the owner was amused by it. It's nice to hear a happy story!

CSI NY: I saw that a few weeks ago. It's hard to believe if it didn't have warnings on the box but it was a more innocent age then - and parents were expected to explain a few things too.

My favorite line from TRT comes from Royal himself: "You heard me...Coletrane."

Good point about the lawyers.
