Because he was taking his clothes off to put his pajamas on when the little girl suddenly had an cross stich ephiphany and called for her mom and dad. He only had taken his pants off, see, and just had his boxers on, but hadn't gotten to his shirt and tie yet, so he put the robe on so as to not traumatize the kid.
