what the hell is a muskellunge?!!?!?

if you don't want to click it, the text under the picture says:

And you thought you knew New York.

Would you take the children to the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome if you knew they staged mock duels between World War I fighter planes? Or to see the performing bears at the Home of 1,000 Animals in Lake Placid? Can you imagine a 16-course tea lunch in Chinatown without one of them being chop suey? Haven't you always meant to visit Niagara Falls? Have you heard that Saratoga is the summer home of the New York City Ballet? Or about the boat trip through the underground caverns on the Indian River? What does a 50-lb. muskellunge look like and what do you do with it when you get it? And haven't you always planned on counting the Thousand Islands one day? Do it all this summer. In New York State.

A muskellunge is a fresh water game fish. aka, a 'Musky'.

Rhinebeck is a great village to visit, and the Aerodrome is still going strong.

I've been to Rhinebeck! We stayed at this cool inn where we had the loft which was big and airy and had two bedrooms and a pull-out couch in the living room. The air show was a lot of fun. :)

The NYC ballet has a summer home? Is that anything like NFL training camp (well, in the past, anyway)?

Out of all those questions, only one have I considered: "Haven't you always meant to visit Niagara Falls?" Been there. Done that. T-shirt worn out and discarded. But I could definitely go for that 16-course tea lunch!

Is that a German community? I've had a hankering for some good German grub.

Good point and good analogy with the buffets! Not that it keeps me away from buffets! ;)

As a native New York stater (Syracuse), I can vouch that the Empire State is a vacation paradise. Lots of beautiful countryside, rolling hills, attractive lakes, charming small towns. (For a perfect example of the latter two, visit Cooperstown -- whose appeal extends beyond the baseball Hall of Fame -- and Otsego Lake.) Upstate, downstate, it's all New York.

Ummm...there were no Nazis in World War I, so I'm not sure where this remark comes from...
