I recall when I first came to New York, I'd buy those Bee and Flower brand scented soaps in Chinatown, and the underwrap stated that: "Bee and Flower brand soaps will do no damage whatsoever to your skin!"

Saying something is "non-poisonous" is pretty much like saying it's "non-toxic."

Interesting. I live in Portland. That address would now be the (equivalent of) 29 NW 4th Avenue (NW 4th and Burnside) - smack in the middle of Chinatown, both in the '20s, and now (unfortunately, now Skid Row is pretty much located there as well). I'm tempted to go see if there is still a building at #29, or what's there now.
