I LOVE Queen Victoria! She was truly a remarkable woman. She had a horrible childhood, where even when she possibly at death's door her mother still attempted to manipulate her to gain control of her if she became Queen before the age of 21 and she remained firm and never bowed to pressure. During her last deliveries she was given chloroform, a 'new' discovery and one that doctors had decreed should NOT be used during delivery as it was a woman's burden to bear pain due to 'original sin'. Victoria let it be publicly known, after her first experience with chloroform, how much she liked it and after that doctors were unable to withhold it from other women as they had. There was racism within the aristocracy during her time, but she showed none of that. When her staff balked at sharing equal settings with her Indian servants, after she became Empress of India, she INCREASED the Indians' ranks. When a servant became pregnant by a man out of wedlock in one of her grandchildren's households, she had the servant come live with her during the pregnancy and shielded her from rumors. One of her granddaughters had a very unhappy marriage and instead of forcing her to remain in it, as her parents told her to, Victoria ordered her home and arranged for an annulment.

She's known, unfortunately, mostly for her prolonged mourning for Albert but I feel even that is misguided and misrepresented. She was indeed mournful for him, but she also used it as an excuse to get out of appearing in public, which she never liked to do before his death. Albert also had told her to not make a big deal of his death, should he die before her. Of course she did, and I think in a way, it was rebellion against him for dying.

She quite enjoyed whiskey in her tea too!

Okay, here's our updated master upcoming events calendar thru April 2016. Yes, really. I included all suggested ideas and added more. Obviously the ideas are pretty infinite. Perhaps that's why I procrastinate doing the calendar? I'd probably procrastinate any way! But AT LEAST it's formed! And as I say on the calendar page---it is NOT etched in stone and we can change things! I figured I'd stretch it out til I had crossed off everything I had written down (we are old school here) and that got us through April 2016.

Some of the contest themes are somewhat 'broad' and I did that to perhaps encourage more participants. The weekly one day events might perk up our weeks. And regular vintage ads are ALWAYS welcome at any time no matter what the 'theme' is!!! I will always post about the event starting the day before and since we're gonna have weekly one day events, I'll do weekly posts too, to give you a start of the week heads up.

Link to the upcoming events' calendar thru April 2016 here AND i'll copy paste it here behind a cut. I expect some people to be excited about next month's contest theme! :)
