I've never been fond of pumpkin pie (I'll eat the point on Thanksgiving Day because I've been told if you make a wish when you do, it will come true by Christmas), but in recent years I've seen a phenomenal surge of "pumpkin-spice" flavored products in supermarkets at this time of year.  So, in honor of the Tenthiversary and for the benefit of those who do enjoy pumpkin-spice-whatever, a nice big legible recipe:

whereas i like the idea of the color/flavor change packet the silver (i've always called it white cake) with chocolate fudge frosting is my absolutely favoritest kind of cake EVER....i love chocolate (do not ever witness me in a godiva store) but i don't care for chocolate cake with chocolate frosting---i actually don't care for chocolate cake (brownies, yes!!)....white cake with chocolate fudge frosting....that is just the best combo EVER!!! well, in my opinion! :)

what's everyone's favorite kind of cake??

Ice-cream!

It might have helped if they could have managed to make the coconut look a little less like chopped feathers.

Or if they hadn't felt it necessary to display the logo of the parent company.  I can't help that I associate the word "Glidden" with housepaint.

(Ladies' Home Journal, July 1949.  Note the additional recipe at the bottom featuring exciting exotic avocado pears.)
