Beech-Nut Cereal illustrations by Gyo Fujikawa

ETA July 2012: The artwork in these ads is by Gyo Fujikawa, not Richard Scarry.

If you don't know Richard Scarry and his amazing illustrations, ACQUAINT   THYSELF   FORTHWITH. *that last one is Huckle Cat and Lowly Worm :D

The Beech-Nut company produced a line of young children's cereals with illustrations on them that many seem to think are his.  I know THESE 2001 products by New Organics used his characters, but for the images below, I'll just go with "They're Cute."

FOUR MORE

charming baby cereals )

Kinsey Whiskey ads, 1945. Lots of men hanging out drinking.

Best ironic name ever, given their ad campaigns. We've already seen THIS ONE with our gents relaxing in the back yard.  Here are a few others.

Kinsey Whiskey, 1945

The pose itself is odd, (but as we'll see, relaxing with your feet all over the furniture is Kinsey's trademark).  Let's throw in the white gloves, the GIGANTIC farm patch in the background, the TUMBLERS full of whiskey, and for good measure, some hilarious copy: "How long does it take to grow a radish?"   Oh, drunk guy, radishes are tiny!  Ask about zucchinis or cucumbers if you're trying to get things going on.

Also, I question the idea that the way to "cultivate friends" is to ply them with alcohol.

A teaser, and the rest:

Ever wonder why it's called the "Rumpus Room"?

Three more! )

Well then.

He just makes NO point of hiding it, does he?
