I have never been to a drive-in! My parents / my friends' parents all seem to have stories about going to the drive-in, but I don't think there were any left in the area when I was growing up.

There's one in Belmont, NC not too far from where I live, but its future is very uncertain. I don't know if they were able to raise enough money to buy a digital projector, which the studios will require them to use this year. That's just one of the problems they have faced in the past few years. Both of the original owners passed away a couple of years ago and the heirs fought over what to do with it so it was closed one season. They are also struggling with aging facilities and the cost of maintaining them. Last season, they had to close a week early because of problems with their well. A suburb has grown up around it and I'm worried once the housing market recovers, they'll sell the land to a developer. I can't say I would blame them, but it would be sad!

Yeah, that's the issue with the one around me too--and now their landlord's raising the rent. It's crazy.

I used to work across the street from where this was once located.
