Again with the stationery shaming! Goddamn it! I'll have you know I use fountain pens, young man.

[identity profile] murakozi.livejournal.com 2013-05-14 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I recently started using fountain pens for much of my day to day stuff and quickly discovered how some papers cause the ink to feather and blur. Still, I still feel like a lowlife since the I don't use Eaton's or Crane's paper. So much for my plans to be a high society type.

Yeah, that's the main problem and why we get snobby about paper these days rather than socio-economic class distinction. I haven't tried this particular ink myself, but you might want to look at it as it was formulated precisely not to feather. The good news: this company sells samples sizes for $1.25-$1.50 depending on the ink, so you can try things without committing to a full bottle. The bad news: it's currently out of stock. It's a small operation and it happens. But you can sign up to be notified when it's in stock. Goulet offers great service, too.

I'll have to give that a try. I've been using Pilot/Namiki black that I got when I purchased a Vanishing Point. I check Goulet now and then. Some of the tutorials and reviews there are really helpful.

Oh lordy, my helpful link has been marked as spam. Such a cruel world.

Thanks!

My guess is that Eaton, Crane & Pike didn't run the first ad in Japan; I also think what they're calling a kimono is probably not what Japanese women wear. Certainly doesn't look that way in the picture.

At the time (teens and 1920s) 'kimono' was the equivalent of a bathrobe, or something you would put on over your nightgown.

One wonders if this shaming was an adman fiction, or if it actually happened, That would be very weird.

Oh, it happened. Just not to your face. MEEEOOOW!

Get out of the stationery advertising business, Hyacinth Bucket!

Sigh. And I signed for a package this morning in my Hello Kitty bathrobe. I'll have you know, Crane Papers, that just being able to walk to the door is an enormous achievement for me these days. So buzz off.

Yeah! Some of us don't care what our friends wear when they see us because they're our friends.

Also, I gave up self-respect for Lent.
