I know my mom and grandparents had special canisters for savin gthe kitchen grease, but I have no idea what they actually did with it. This was up through the early 80's, so it must have been mostly residual habits?

My MIL actually uses that grease...over and over and over and over...and in whatever she can.

Yeah, I always thought it was only kept back to fry other foods later, like my grandmother did. First time I've heard that it was for explosives, too. Although, given how grease burns, I suppose it makes sense in hindsight.
