Eggs, Bologna, Beans = Supper?

Yet another unappealing meal! Harvest Bean Supper! Gotta love the eggs on top of the bologna slices all layered over beans!

This is from Woman's Day October 1959

It really doesn't look that bad, but then I read the ingredients. YUCK!

Two pounds of butter.

Two tablespoons, but it looks greasy enough to contain two pounds.

[squints]

Heh... that's a little more reasonable.

You know, if you substitute some nice heirloom beans for the canned pork and beans and pancetta for the bologna this has potential.

Yeah, if I substituted real food for the scarier ingredients, my husband would probably like this.

OMG the salt.

I know this is baked, but my first thought when I saw the picture was "Fried bologna is DELICIOUS." It seriously is. But without the egg.

yum!

and when i say yum, i mean yuk. thank you miss tia, you've done it again! anyone weirded out by how white those candles are? no? just me then.

I like how that shorter candle is leaning enough so that it will soon fall over and set fire to those dead leaves. That'll liven up dinner for sure.

Can we stop it with the inappropriate egg usage already? Seriously, did recipe writers get extra points for putting visible eggs in everything?

I'm super hungover now, and looking at this ad made me wretch a little.

Oh God.
