My first "new" car was a 1991 Mercury Sable Wagon. It lasted about 17 years. All the rubber rotted, mostly the hoses one at a time. The only body rust was in the spare wheel well. And all the paint peeled off. I missed the "secret recall" for the paint campaign.
But it was really reliable 'till the last year. The 6 cyl fuel injected engine ran well. It was the perfect size for me: I often packed it with barely an inch to spare.
I was really upset when the styling changed to the rounded "egg" shape with reduced cargo spage. Now it looks like a SUV.
The closest replacement I found for it was a WV Passat Wagon, which was recently discontinued :-(
