Maybe it's just me, but Whitman's chocolates seem very low quality. No real chocolate bitterness and a lot of the centers seem completely tasteless?

Well...drugstore chocolates are like drugstore makeup. Okay, but maybe not the highest quality you can find.

But back in the forties, they didn't have ultra high-end choccies like they do today; Brands like Brach's, Whitman's, or Russell Stover were probably perfectly acceptable.
