I love the diagram of 'how it works'. Yes, because that's *exactly* how lungs are meant to work. :P

Exactly! I expect that boy would be very ill indeed if that's how his lungs are structured. Humans are not cycle air conditioners last time I checked :P

The 'red glow' is also slightly concerning - is the cream causing inflammation or his mum just rubbing very, very hard? :P I do adore these ads.

I feel sorry the GPs being shown the cream, though. :P

The chemical burn shows that it's working!

Really? Children like this way of getting chest cold relief? Compared to what? Beating the cold out of a child?

i'd take this over a flu shot! :) actually i love vicks vapor rub.....and i wouldn't get a flu shot....that's just me though and yes i am weird!

Oh thank goodness - I'm not the only one. I won't get a flu shot - at all (and have been chastised about this from several people). And Vick's? I use it frequently. I place a little bit under my nose before I go to bed if my sinuses are stuffed, and I always have at least two back-up boxes of Puffs (I think it's Puffs) with the Vick's in the tissue. Those things are heaven-sent!

yeah, no flu shot, no shingles shot, no pneumonia shot, no no NO!!!.....i know people who get them who find them beneficial....i also know people who get them who get horrible sick after they get them.....it's a personal decision and i would never chastise someone who GETS a shot, though i have been lectured too about getting a shot by some people and i lecture right back!! my dr. doesn't lecture though and she understands my concerns and AGREES with me and says they are valid......

when i'm sick, like now, vicks on the nose, chest, lungs, back, old tshirt to bed and it seems to really help....and i always have a vicks inhaler during the winter.....i have year round allergies too....i can't use puffs (something in them make my nose bleed---how bizarre is that? generic kleenex is a-okay, puffs? nose bleed!!).....but i've seen the ones with vicks in 'em.....i also have one of those plug ins next to the bed for when i'm really congested with the little vicks pad that warms up and puts out vicks air....(not a humidifier i can't use them)....

glad i'm not the only one too!!! YEAH!!! flu shot avoiders unite! :)

i use vicks and tell the hubby "Oooo baby, i'm all with the SMEXXXINESS now!" (in my ratty old nightshirt and smelling of vicks)

i got my flu shot last week, i had a pneumonia shot 2 years ago, and i'll have the shingles shot soon too. then again, i have a broke-ass immune system, and it HELPS me. i've had pnemonia twice. i dont want it again. but i'm not hammering on you to get one, its a VERY personal choice. plus, with TheEngineer traveling to china and korea? i dont want anything he may bring home. (he had the flu shot, too.)

my "bad days" feel like i have the flu and was hit by a couple of 18 wheelers. good days, i only have the flu. so yeah, i dont want to actually get sick too.

feel better soon hon! *emails more vicks, kleenexes, and a cabana boy to rub the vicks on your back and massage your feet* and put the vicks ON YOUR FEET then put on warm socks. sounds stupid as all hell, but it actually helps clear your breathing!

i've had shingles 4 times.....the dr. has even told me i'd still probably get it with the vaccine (points for honesty!!!).....she also agrees with me when i point out the flu vaccine only covers certain types of flu.....i've had pneumonia before and i know once you've had it you are prone to it, my hand is raised!!! i once had it so bad i ended i ended up with pleurisy, acute pleurisy, and every breath hurt like hell and i wanted to fucking DIE it hurt to breath so bad....so now i am EXTREMELY vigilant when i get a cold and immediately start with the vicks, tea with honey, echinacea capsules, increased vitamin A capsules, garlic capsules, cayenne, etc.....i have a sort of weakened immune system with all the steroid shots i've gotten and continue to get, the dr. always tells me i gotta be careful and avoid 'outbreaks'....in the winter when i grocery shop i usually wear latex gloves in the grocery store so i don't handle anything with other people's germs.....

vaccines are definitely a personal choice and i know people who swear by them and have no problem with them, i'm glad they are beneficial to so many people!! i'd be leery too with the traveling overseas! have you watched 'an idiot abroad'? that made me think of karl talking about all the shots he had to get before his travels!!

thanks for the get well thoughts!!! i went to run an errand---the ole 'get the stink blown off' thinking---but i don't think it had any benefit.....i have yet to try vicks on my feet....i'll try that tonight!!! thanks!

I don't do it for me, I do it for the baby and the sick old mother in my family. My employer pops for it, so I do it. Since they took out the thimerosol, I don't get sick from it, and if I don't get the flu, I can't infect Mom or Great Nephew.

i remember when thimerosol was in contact cleaners! i had blisters on my eyes from it during the summer in iowa....4th of july week, in the 90s, high humidity, blisters on eyes.....i think i was 12 or 13.....horrible!!! i had to then use homemade contact cleaner (eek! it's a wonder my eyes aren't permanently damaged) and POPCORN SALT until they took thimerosol out of contact cleaners.....

i know a lot of employers pay for vaccines...and i think a lot of places actually offer them FREE....i think one year around here one of the hospitals offered flu vaccines FREE for one and all....usually larger city health departments will offer flu, shingles and even pneumonia shots for free to people with no insurance.....

Yeah, people are all "But your mom has a suppressed immune system, what if you killed her off?" Um...first of all, I won't be around her if I'm sick (I realize it's hard to know when you're contagious). Secondly, I see her so infrequently during traditional "sick" seasons that... is it worth it? Third of all, there would be no way to prove that it was me. She's exposed to more people than just me and my dad. I've known more people that get sick from vaccinations than not. Now, do I get the usual booster shots for the weird diseases? Yes. But the stuff that's around every year, and mutates every year (and even by the time the vaccines are out)? No.

I hear you on the year-round allergies. Ugh! And just when I find one OTC med that helps me sleep all night, I'll develop a tolerance to it. Fan.tas.tic. Ooo...I might have to look for that Vick's plug in. I need to run a couple of errands this afternoon, so I'll put that on my list. =)

Unite!

here's a link for a visual... called a waterless vaporizer.....i love mine....around $10 and the refills are like 3 for around $4.....one little pad will last about 3 days if you have it on around 8 hours a day......if you use it less, it'll last longer, obviously....

yeah, i avoid people with suppressed immune systems when i am sick....but they go to stores and end up getting sick....at least i have a clear conscience! it's usually 3 days for most flu bugs to incubate.....

knock wood, i've yet to build up a tolerance to an allergy med....what usually happens is it'll get pulled from the market!
