"Most of the fellers in our crowd take Ex-lax." Not a line you hear often. D:
Yeah. When I was that age, my friends and I talked about cartoons and playground gossip. The subject of laxatives never came up (nor did the subject of medication in general). I guess kids in the 50s had no respect for boundaries!
If a child needs to take laxatives that often, there is probably something seriously wrong with him and/or his diet! Feeding him Ex-Lax is not the correct solution!
There's more to explore here....there are so many advertisements about "digestible" food and everyone seems constipated back then. The whole Kellogg's empire seems to be built on these maladies. What on earth were those people eating?
I wasn't aware so many boys his age were into anorexia/bulimia culture. I thought it was more of a high school girl thing. At least it was at my school.
My grandmother hated chocolate because of exlax being given to her when she was young. Back in the day, some people believed that when a kid was feeling bad, they needed exlax or something else.

I have never had to give my kids any sort of laxative - maybe because they've mostly been eating real food.

This reminds me of someone I know, who ate chocolate Ex-lax thinking it was actual chocolate. It definitely didn't end well.
