I actually just wrote a review for this movie here (http://setsuled.livejournal.com/734861.html). It is very beautifully shot and a remarkably faithful remake of Murnau's film.
For me, there is a link between the myth of vampire (at least, the way I see it) and what makes the heart of Europe. Nosferatu the Vampyre (Nosferatu Phantom der Nacht) may be the only movie to recreate this telluric connection.
I love this film. :-) Way better than the 'teen soap-opera' school of vampire movies! Even though it's an hommage to the silent original (Herzog used several of Murnau's original locations and recreated certain shots almost exactly) it's definitely more than just a remake.
The photography has this amazing ethereal, melancholy quality and the music of Popol Vuh is all mesmerising and meditative... hmm, I might have to watch it tonight! :-)
never watched this....i love the original, so i don't think i could watch a remake (i'm weird).....but i DID enjoy the movie, what was it called? 'shadow of a vampire'? that was a creative endeavor and i really liked that....
