Contest entry (First!)

Look magazine, November 1957:

 ... raisinlion?

Evidence that recreational pharmaceuticals were being used in the advertising industry far earlier than is usually suspected.

The smiley raisin on the bottom reminds me of Coraline.

Also...."The taste surprise happens just south of your chin?"

Uh....your neck?

lol that's what I was wondering... south of your chin? Um... there's nothing south of the chin that tastes anything. O_O

Wondering the same thing here, maybe they're just hoping the confused among us will eat a lot of them trying to figure out what happens after you swallow them.

Personally, I despise raisins whether they're on a lion or not. They're always ruining perfectly good cookies, scones, cakes, sauces--you name it, they're in it.

Freaky! Especially the way the kid seems to be enjoying the experience in spite of having a broken left leg just above the ankle. Or something.

It also seems to be supporting professional bakers with that tag line at the bottom. Maybe there's another line underneath that reads:

EVERYTHING YOU BAKE TASTES LIKE CRAP AND IS A BIG WASTE OF EFFORT

Can't argue there.

Oh, and yes! forgot about the contest til now.

Oooooookay....

[edges slowly away]

That is an incredibly disturbing image. The lion's mane is just...so gross.

[identity profile] murakozi.livejournal.com 2011-06-03 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
So there's no real explanation for the raisin lion?

I find the smiley face thing to be a bit disturbing. Is he (it?) about to eat that raisin? It's like some creepy auto-cannibalism thing.

that lion has his paws all over that kid's "raisins," but i guess the kid is enjoying it, so maybe he's consenting.

*falls over laughing* that's beautiful :D

(but the little dog is now looking at me as though i am insane for snickering the way i am hee!)

What is the legal age of consent for lion molestation? It probably varies by state and whether the lion is partly made of dried fruit.

Yes

It makes no sense, but I like it.

Yes

This is why we need to encourage all children to say No to raisins.

Yes

The copy's flavored like something from an English-speaking country other than the US. Or like a slightly cross-tongued effort from writers for whom English is not the first language -- "Just for example, look closely at all make-for-fun raisinlions..." ..but it's Californey Raisins, and in Look mag, so it's just native whackety whack.

Well, it looks like someone had a three-martini lunch with a side order of mescaline.

I don't know what the hell is supposed to be going on in this ad, but I do know that raisins defile every other foodstuff they touch.

[identity profile] singeaddams.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, c'mon, raisins are delicious! (Though I admit this ad will put me off them for a week or so.)

I'm guessing, bankrolled by the fine folks at:
