Your Life Work

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and assume the kiddies are eating buns with the margarine on them, and not, you know, whole hunks of yellow margarine.

Could be wrong.

My granddads used to be formally dressed even at home quite often.

Suppose it was his way of chilling. He looked pretty comfortable to me.

You never know--my brother used to eat--oh, ugh!--sticks of butter, right from the fridge.

[identity profile] koneko-wish.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
My little sister would eat spoonfuls of margarine right from the tub when we were kids. Made me gag every time. I swear, she had no taste buds.

She'd also mix grape juice and milk.

Whatever it is they're eating, WHERE ARE THEIR NAPKINS? WHERE ARE THE PLATES?

They are SO wiping their hands on the furniture and their clothes, and getting crumbs/grease everywhere!

Mom will clean it up! It's all part of the drudgery of household management.

[identity profile] cindyanne1.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Some things never change lol.

[identity profile] njbearcub1.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Of course. Mom's just proud to see her husband and children happy.

I like this one because the father is parenting and not just smoking his pipe and waiting for the invention of the TV remote.

Interesting point.

[identity profile] cindyanne1.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
LOL she does look like she just landed on the floor doesn't she! XD

[identity profile] write-light.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
That's her "I'm a stylish model" pose! Please!

[identity profile] rosehiptea.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
"No other churned spread is richer in food energy"

Isn't that the same thing as saying "It's highest in calories?"

And I too, love how the sister only gets to sit on the floor.

well, clearly giant pillow > girlchild.

[personal profile] whoseline_wlsc 2010-08-15 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
It did look to me at first that they were eating hunks of margarine haha. Ick.

[identity profile] pony-rocks.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
You know, I think they really are.
The way the girl is holding her piece is odd - almost as if there still was a bit of wrapping paper.

I'm curious - do you have a year/approximate date for this ad? I'm asking because the copy mentions a 'color packet', and I was wondering when margarine manufacturers stopped using them (and simply dyed the stuff yellow at the factory).

And also...

[identity profile] franklanguage.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
without the "color packet" wouldn't the margarine just be basically salty Crisco?

Re: And also...

[identity profile] cindyanne1.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 10:56 am (UTC)(link)
Guh... makes me glad I've made the switch over to butter for all butter-type uses.

[identity profile] cactuswren.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
I've found ads mentioning the "color packet" dating from as late as 1949.

[identity profile] charlotterhys.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
I still eat margarine on saltines.

And I used to eat margarine sandwiches on white bread.

I didn't eat it with a spoon like my sister did, though.

*cough*

[identity profile] koneko-wish.livejournal.com 2010-08-15 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I do sometimes miss margarine-and-cheese sandwiches on white bread.

I don't think I can eat any margarine for a while now (-_-)

Sitting in the living room eating a hunk of margarine. The horror...
