Question: Where do people get old magazines anymore? I don't see them in thrift shops or garage sales like I once did. Maybe Estate Sales are a better bet? This ad came from a book about World War One.

Observation for Mods: If you want a physical prize for the barf food contest, have you considered sending the winner several boxes of Lime Jello? Then they could create their own wonderful dishes at home. And it's gotta be ~Lime~ - I'm just sayin'.

i get old magazines 'treasure hunting' (spring clean up in cities where peoples toss perfectly good items), library sales, ebay, estate sales, thrift stores, antique stores---if priced good....

I agree, I don't see old mags nearly as often anymore. :( These days I've had more luck at junk shops and flea markets, if you can find a stand that sells books. When I see them at antique shops, they are WAY expensive now.

There's a store in my city that has an amazing amount of "junk" in the basement, sort of like a jumble sale, including very, very old copies of "Life" magazine. I just remembered this. I hope they still have them, because I want to go look for them.

Luckily for me, in Vancouver, they have a used book store that also has many collectable brochures, maps, and yes, magazines. Nearly all what I post now is from my own collection. From this store I pulled out a Sewing magazine from 1932, A men's health and living magazine from 1914, A Photoplay magazine from 1932, and my current magazine which I'm scanning, a The American Home magazine from 1953. Great stuff.

I buy mine at local antique malls and occasionally off of Ebay - in fact, I should start selling the giant wad of Ladies Home Journals from the mid 1940s that I have, because I don't want all of them.

Old Life magazines seem to be pretty common around here - they're the only ones I seem to trip over everywhere I look.

There's a little restaurant I frequent where the owner provides an assortment of fascinating reading material for his customers. The last time I was there he gave me a 50-year-old copy of Readers Digest to read. I so badly wanted to take it home and scan all the ads, but I had to give it back when I left. :)

The articles were fascinating, too, all about the "Soviet threat" and those nasty, nasty Communists.

Flying for the Daily Fail? No wonder he suffered from nerves, with all the seething hatred towards women and minorities he was carrying round with him. Poor man.

I never find old magazines any more and it sucks. I used to get them at a funny old bookshop, till it closed, and increasingly the replacement funny old bookshops don't have them any more.

I used to love True Romance magazines. The ridiculous photos! The horribly conformist stories!

There are A LOT of old/vintage ads, and some are priced pretty high. (Don't know how well they sell, but since I've been seeing them for years now, I guess it must be a fairly profitable sales category.)
