you're right about that, it isn't a joke....it is very dangerous.....when the caregiver is their spouse or loved one, at home, it makes it even more difficult because even though they KNOW it's the illness making them act that way, it hurts them---more than physically......

True. Then there is the whole leaving-the-stove-on thing, the driving-menace-to-all thing, the mental-abuse-to-caregiver thing ... I'd say the tipping point over to needing institutionalized care is hard to define. Certainly the person would resist being termed certifiable.
