oh, i love Aile!! and i giggle at the shoes...my grandmother kept an old, old pair of shoes that she ONLY used at the beach. and yes, she wore them into the water, too. of course in her case, she did not want anyone to see her feet.
i suspect that her feet were wider in the begining but the shoes she wore were *not* wide. her feet ended up with her little toe bent *across* her foot, facing the instep. so she always wore shoes, that no one could see it.
