I've always assumed it was another word for hernia. Maybe I'm wrong?

When I first saw the ad, I thought it meant hernia, too.

Rupture was used to describe a hernia in general, but often was more specifically referring to an inguinal hernia.

While I believe it's actually possible for women to get inguinal hernias, it's usually men that get 'em and it's when a bit of intestine end up protruding from the abdomen down where one's dangly bits are. In less severe cases, things can be pushed back up and held in place til they straighten themselves out. In bad cases, you have to have surgery.
